Concomitantly, the GCICS is charged to provide support to “institutions, organizations and/or talented men and women from the greater Sarasota community in the fields of Italian music, art, architecture, language, literature and civilization.”

 Commencing in 1994 the fledgling Society, through various fund-raisers and membership contributions, has implemented an enviable funding program of Scholarships and Awards, which has totaled more than $100,000.00.

    Since 2001, yearly Awards of no less that $1,000.00 each, have been made to the Sarasota Opera, for its Apprentice Youth Program and lately its Youth Chorus, as well as to the Sarasota Ballet for its Dance – The Next Generation program.

             The Scholarship program has grown from two awards in 2001 to an average of eight-plus for each of the last six years.  Since the first selection in 1999, sixty-seven area high schools seniors have received a scholarship from the Society, to continue their education.

           Selection for each $1,000.00 merit scholarship is based upon a completed application comprised of data to establish the applicant's full or partial Italian ancestry, scholastic merit, extra curricular school activities, community service, as well as the submission of an essay, and recommendation letters.  Finalists must also participate in an in-person interview by Scholarship Committee members.
